re: the magnifier looks useful.
If I could find one of those separately, I'd be happy to use one in conjunction with the arc protractors I draw for myself. If nothing else, it would ease/facilitate the process of aligning zenith angle between cantilever and the grid on my paper protractors.
I can understand the motivation presented for those who favor Merc Living Presence and RCA Living Stereo Lps that record signal just about up to the label. On the other hand, I have to say that I have my own collection of Mercs with short runout areas. I align to Baerwald (Loefgren A) and detect no increase in audible distortions heard in these final grooves. Even when those are the loudest part of the record.
I suspect that audiophiles who are experiencing problems of distorted voices, and excessive sibilance at the inner grooves are suffering, in reality, from a poor setup (botched alignment). Something that could easily be fixed with proper implementation of a paper protractor. But the fix for many, it seems, is to spend $$$ dollars on a classy looking setup apparatus rather than concentrate on improving basic tonearm alignment skills.
Given that, perhaps the cool new tool will offer some confidence to audiophile psyche's and perhaps motivate them to practice enough to finally create an acceptable alignment. Who knows.

- You can also move null-points without altering effective length or mounting distance by changing offset angle. /nt\ - John Elison 16:50:53 05/01/11 (0)
