John, like I said before, "customs charge" you were talking about may be made up of mostly customs brokerage fee charged by the carrier. The duties and taxes for goods from the US is 5% goods/services tax plus 7-8% provincial tax and there is no duties for consumer goods from the US, and of course add $5 for flat rate brokerage fee when sent by post office service.
