Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

Thank you Rushton

For sharing you and your spouse's experiences in such a wonderfully communicated review, or narrative perhaps.

My partner and I have very similar similar musical tastes and sonic requirements to yours. We even share the same diffences that you described. I'm the researcher, the internet participant, the equipment junkie. He's the one who can hear and assess any change I make in seconds, while it often takes me many times longer to reach the same conclusion. We've had similar experiences to yours with our new rig, though not at quite the same level of course.

You captured nicely the necessity to fine-tune one's rig for ultimate performance and the musical joy that can result. Some of my virtual audio friends have wondered about our decision to adjust critical parameters for virtually every record. They haven't realized - or I haven't adequately conveyed - that it is the music that lead us to this level. They even wonder if taking such pains might somehow detract from the pleasure of music-making. (I believe their preferences may tend toward rock or other, more processed music.) I assure them that the magic of recreating the sound of acoustic instruments, particularly a full orchestra, can only be attained with a bit of care and effort. It takes us 45 minutes of travel to hear a symphony orchestra concert. Surely spending a minute or two to optimize one's rig before playing similar music in the home is no hardship, when doing so can bring the experience so much closer to the real thing.

Thanks again, BTW, for pointing out Lloyd Walker's VTA/VTF setup guidelines on A'gon recently. I was attempting to write the same thing but he said it more simply and clearly than I ever could. At least we know our ears are good, since we were already hearing exactly what he described.

Enjoy!
Doug
