My 1257 will not shut off, either; although the mute switch works fine. Count your blessings, at least you can still "play the records"; it would be a lot worse if the motor did not turn ON :>} In reference to Damian's "nifty" post; all that I have ever used are Duals and I guess that I thought that all automatic tts had this feature. Yes, it is a great feature.Dave
