You should probably add a {pre} tag before the ASCII diagram and a {/pre} tag after it (substitute less than/greater than symbols for the curly braces) : this will force it to display as a fixed-width font in everyone's browsers and the diagram will line up properly.

It'll let you keep space characters instead of the periods, too, if you want to eliminate those for clarity. In fact, I'll do it for you, as a (paltry, but it's what I've got) thank-you :
