RE: You sure about "most"?

80-90% would be my guess as well. I've owned many amplifiers and repaired many others through the years. Almost all of them have a common ground on the black terminal.

Nowadays, a number of multi-channel amplifiers will have "zone" modules configured to a single power supply. It's not unusual to see a 10 ohm (or so) resistor from each module to a common/chassis ground. But even in that case, it's the red terminal that is actively driven and not the black.
