I think of electricity flowing in a wire as *somewhat* like water in a pipe.
The amp is like a pump connected to one end of a water filled pipe. But it's a weird pump that just happens to alternately push and pull the water in the pipe - as opposed to typical water pump that always forces the water in one direction.
If one end of the pipe is sealed the pump can neither push nor pull the water.
The analogy is an amp and speaker where only one wire - red or black doesn't matter - is connected.
In that case the electrons can't flow back and forth because the pump can neither push nor suck the water.
Sort of...
