I started a journey into the hifi world 3 years ago and have listened to a number of the Thiels in different setups and environments and up to the time I heard the 2.4s at CES a year ago found that they gave me a headache after listening to them for a few minutes. I had really wanted to like the speakers due to what I had read about the design philosophy. The 2.4s were the first Thiels that didn't give me a headache after a few minutes of listening. I didn't find them nearly as involving as the Vandersteen 5As or the Avalon Eidolon Diamonds but no headache (yeah unfair comparison to speakers costing substantially more...). It may be that the new mechanical crossover has changed whatever problem there was with the older speakers that fatigued me or it may be that I wasn't listening to my own selection of music or that the setup and room had something to do with it. In any case I've given up on the Thiels.
