I'll second gentlegiantfan's suggestion regarding an in-home audition of either 1.6's or 12's. Assuming that your space is unobstructed, a 6-meter x 8-meter room will accommodate either planar quite nicely. However--and this depends of course on your listening tastes--a 70-watt amp may be a bit lightweight for complex, wide-dynamic program material--which is one reason why an in-home audition with recordings you're familiar with would be helpful in making your decision, including whether you feel you need a subwoofer to supplement the planars. You don't indicate your ceiling height. Mine's about 2.5+ meters, and optimum placement for my 1.6's using the Cardas dipole placement formula* to minimze the effect of room modes is about 1.75 meters out from the wall behind the speakers--the same should apply to the 12's. If you do audition or purchase either Magnepan model, I'd suggest that as a starting point to determine what positioning works best in your room.
* From the Cardas site--"Panel or dipole speakers such as Apogees and Magnepans cancel their side waves, so a formula of .618 x the ceiling height can be used for determining placement from the rear wall."
