At least IMO. I would still be looking for my first car if I thought I would never have to due any major repairs for the first 20 years. I would still be looking for a computer (and certainly for an operating system) if I expected it not to crash within 5 years. I guess you get my point.
Granted Maggies may need repair (which can usually be done DIY for cheap) after several years, but how many of us change equipment within 5-7 years of purchase anyway.
I had a pair of IIB's that delaminated withing 6 mo (living on a point on the Chesapeake Bay with water on three sides and big picture windows beaming light on them all day long) and they were fixed under warranty and held up fine until I sold them 19 years later. I bought a pair of IIIa's that were starting to delaminate when I got them. They were repaired by Magnepan for ~$350 four years ago without problems. In the meantime I have been enjoying Maggies for almost 30 years. Small trade-off in my mind.I may be an egoist but at least I don't talk about other people.
