Faulty door switch (or poor door alignment), bad timer, bad over-temp safety device ("thermal sensor"), and if it has one, a bad humidity sensor. Elements too hot? I doubt it, mainly because it was running fine previously, correct? Generally heating elements don't tend to get hotter before they fail/as they age....
If you have the wiring diagram (and you may if you remove the back panel on the unit), jump-out anything that will stop a normal dry cycle (e.g., the items mentioned above) one item at a time, and run it. Eventually through trial and error you will be able to nail down the offender.
Oh, but do NOT jump out the humidity sensor, if you have one. It's most likely a thermistor....
