Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

(Pro audio?) Yorkville Unity U15

For five years I've been very pleased with a pair of Yorkville U15 bought used. Slightly modified and run active, they are easily the finest sounding (if not looking) pair I've ever owned, and I've owned a few. These are recently discontinued, but were not much > $2000 a pair when being sold. These were early "Unity" speakers, and using Danley tech, of which I'm a fan. Point source coherence and directivity from a waveguide is not something you find in every speaker, even very expensive ones.

If I were starting from scratch, based on my pro-Danley bias, I'd probably buy the SM60 or SH50 ( + sub maybe), but those would start at maybe $6000 the pair. I'm quite pleased that a lucky used buy of trashed pro speakers for about $700 sounds as good as it does, probably 90% of what I could get with a pair of real Danleys.

Many other people like other types of "pro audio" speakers, even for home use.

If you've money to burn, Danley finally has brought one to for "home" (or home theater) use, the Hyperion. Not sure if actualy available yet, but no doubt it'll be a bit more than $2000!
