Crossover point for Altec 816/JBL E140 & EV DH1012/HR9040

I have a pair of Altec 816 cabinets loaded w JBL E140F 15's & EV DH1012 compression drivers mounted to HR9040 lenses.

I am using a Fostex FT17H bullet tweeter and have tried others. I have a pair of JBL 2402 bullets and some made by Selenium. None of them seem to work very well. The phase problems from a 3-way crossover and time coherence problems from driver placement may be the problem???

I am thinking of switching back to a 2-way crossover and then just taking what I can get as far as high frequency response from the EV high freq system. They go up to around 16k or a little better.

What would be the a good starting pint for a 2-way crossover? It seems that most people using passive crossovers with VOT style systems like this use 700-800Hz crossover point w L/R 12db type configuration.

Thanks for your suggestions
