Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

I Agree

Hello dcurtis53!

I find myself in complete agreement with your assesment of the CarderSound Madisons and would add to what you said that the drums are presented in a manner that's startingly realistic. They are without a doubt the best speakers I've ever heard in my home or anyone elses.

I have been the proud owner of a pair of CarderSound Madisons since July 2008. Bob Brines is only partially correct when he stated the Madisons are a commercial rendition of the DIY Sachiko. When Jeff Carder originally started what Bob stated was correct but, Cardersound's new v2 version of Madisons ---{that you purchased @ $6595}---is no longer a simple commercial rendition of the DIY Sachiko! The original ---{Madison/Sachiko design which can be seen at the Frugal-Horn site in the Spawn family by clicking on the link below}--- was indeed a commercial rendition of the DIY Sachiko, that was made available by CarderSound for those who cannot DIY these speakers.

However the new v2 is a proprietory design using a Conical horn expansion which Jeff states has significantly improved the Madison/Sachiko's sonic performance but, I digress! Having owned the original, open-source Madison/Sachiko speakers I can attest to their awesome sonic capabilities! These incredible speakers replaced the very well regarded Aliante Pininfarina Ones speakers in my audio system. The Aliantes are a 2-way Italian monitor speaker that sell for $5K a pair without stands and can be compared to Sonus Faber in quality and sound. However one listen to the Madisons and they were prompty and permanently removed from my system. People need to consider that not everyone can DIY their own speakers and for those of us who cannot DIY the CarderSound Madisons represent an absolute incredible value!

In my system which consists of a Mastersound Reference 845 integrated SET and a BlueNote Stibbert CDP and the Madisons ---{see photo above}--- the Madisons have provided the most realistic replication of what I believe live, unamplified, music should and does sound like! The Madisons offer the 1) speed and clarity of electrostatics & ribbons, 2) dynamics of horns 3) bass that's taunt down to 30Hz- only rarely ---{much less often than with the Aliantes}--- do I ever consider a subwoofer could improve their performance and 4) with their mouth-driver-mouth confiquration that's much like a DAppolito design they launch a waveform that's near-cylindrical, like a linesource would!

Finally Jeff's price for the Madisons is considerably less than that of their only real competetion in terms of similarity, the Cain & Cain Double BEN yet, the Madisons, while less expensive are actually a larger version of this type speaker design! I cannot think of another speaker I'd rather own for the price of the Madisons and a good bit more. Perhaps the best thing I can say is just like when I purchased the Mastersound 6 years ago and I stopped looking for other amplifiers. So too is it that since I've purchased the Madisons I've stopped looking for other speakers! The ONLY change I "might" even consider making with the Madisons is to replace their Fostex FE206E drivers with the much more $$$$ Fostex FE206ESR driver which is a limited edition ---{and no longer obtainable}--- all out assault at making this driver the best it can be!
