RE: Imagine if you will.

I used to drink Glenlivet every once in a while. Then, in London, I got a bottle of Glenmorangie. Much better. Oddly, also more expensive. Glenfiddich is good, too. But Scotch in general is way expensive, especially given how readily available it is. As a 'regular' quaffer, Johnny Walker Red is pretty decent. 'Black' is for snobs who put ice cubes in it. Once the ice cubes melt, it tastes like Red.

Anyway, I can't remember the last time I bought of bottle of Scotch here in the States. Mostly, I just have a glass or two at someone's home every several months or so, and I'm done.

Same for Cognac. I like Cognac, a lot. But the only time I have it is when I'm in California and visit our good buddy John Curl. He's a Cognac guy, but rarely drinks it much these days. I'd buy it here at home, but it's fairly expensive stuff, even though it's probably not any more expensive than a decent Scotch - which I don't buy, either. Mostly, I'm a wino. Give me an acceptable Pinot Noir, and I'm happy.
