I bought my Reference Line Mod. 2000, used, for about $250.00. Open it up and see if it has the Penny+Gilles attenuator. Some people on this web-site have recommended up-grading it. I haven't felt a need to do so. I have, however, noticed a considerable difference in dynamics from long interconnects (I tried it on 8 ft. of Transparent) to what I am presently using, -18" of Kimber solid silver interconnects. These passive preamps work great on robust tube amps. such as my VTL's, -they're "just not there", they are so transparent. However, I tried it on Doc. B's 2A3 Paraglows and I couldn't get enough gain. So, the amps. and the interconnects are very important considerations with passive preamps.
