I haven't followed all the posts on this subject, so it may be old news, but it's VERY easy to connect (hard-wire) an upgraded three-wire power cord to this unit, by simply snipping off the old power cord connections about 1 1/2" from the printed circuit board, connecting the white and black wires to those from your new power cord, and attaching the green power cord wire to a chassis screw on back. Since I applied damping material to the inside of the 3950 at the same time, I'm not sure what improvements resulted from what tweak, but the end result was very fine. I used cryoed Home Depot wire (the so-called "HD-14") for the new power cord. The 3950 ended up sounding slightly better than my Sony XA-777ES (on Redbook discs, of course), which is also connected via HD-14.
