I believe the Bolder modded DIO is superior to the unmodded DIO and the Scott Nixon is very close to the modded DIO so I would be inclined to think it is better than an unmodded DIO. Please note that I have never tried to compare it directly with an unmodded DIO. Scott's non-tubed DAC is next on my hit list. I think it would be a better match for my system. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty nice but I don't need any more tubes in my system at the moment.Scott sells kits for his products that look pretty easy to assemble. I'm thinking about building a kit and using a cool milled aluminum hard drive case I found at Comp USA. I have seen some on Ebay also. They are little cases designed to house external hard drives. I would need to drill a hole in the case to house the tube if I do a tube model, but I bet the aluminum case would look cool. Scott's little plastic case is good enough and pretty small. He put all of the $$$ into the design and the parts so it's not much of a beauty queen. Heck, the DIO looks like a guitar effects pedal!
For $350, or less for the non-tube model, Scott's stuff is very cool. I would love to hear it with a beefed up power supply like the one I have for my DIO. Unfortunately the voltage is different and I'd damage it if I tried to plug it in.
