Misplaced Manufacturers' Comments

In the current issue of Stereophile there is a letter in Manufacturers Comments' from Charles Hansen. Fair enough you might think, epsecially as Charles usually writes something worth reading, except that this is not a follow-up to an Ayre review. Instead this is about another company's product, and it is not complementary.

Leaving the specifics aside, it seems a dangerous precedent for Stereophile - will we now see Quad filing copy every time a closed box speaker is reviewed complaining that nothing is as accurate as elecrostatics, or will Audio Research write to point out that the superiority of tubes for every solid-state amplifier review?

Publish the piece as a regular letter in the letters section or, better still, expand it to be a technical article explaining why one design philosophy is better than another.
