You might want to consider auditioning the Lamm M2.2 monoblocks, (220 wpc hybrids), instead of the M1.2 reference with your Eidolons.

These were the amps that my friend used with his Avalon Eidolons, (at least until he upgraded to the Rockport Antares). He still uses the aforementioned M2.2 amps, btw. They sound very similar to the M1.2s, (just a touch less sweet in the mid-range), but they have all the power you'll ever need in order to get all the bass that you can out of the Eidolons.

Another thing about the Lamm hybrids, is that you really should use some nice NOS tubes. (Given that there is only one in each, the cost is not that big a deal, especially given the price of the Lamm amps themselves.) Something like an Orange Globe Amperex 6DJ8, ($50 or so a pair), will provide you with a real step up from the stock Sovtek, and going to the Amperex Pinched Waist 6922, will provide the absolute best that these amps can provide, (although they tend to be pretty pricey).

FYI: My friend and I have done a great deal time doing of comparisions between these monoblock amps, and many of the other better amps around, (including the VTL MB-450s, the Manley Neoclassic 250s, the DarTZeel NHB-108), and the only amp that was the M2.2s equal was the 150 wpc tubed VAC 300.1 stereo amplifier. (The bass of the VAC was not quite as good, as can be expected from a lower powered stereo amp, but the mid-range had that liquid tube sound, and the treble was incredibly well extended and had such a delicate touch as to be unbelievable.)

FYI, I own the Lamm M2.1s, (the predecessor to the M2.2s), and I love them. They are the best amps I have ever owned. (They are a little dark sounding in comparision to the M2.2s, but other than that, they are very similar.) They work great driving my EgglestonWorks Andra II speakers.

PS I don't know if it matters, but both my friend and I also use them in balanced mode. (However, another friend, who also has the M2.2s, runs them in single ended mode, with his Revel Salon 2 speakers.)
