Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |

Hi all,
I have an option of buying a Sumiko Pearl or a Grado Black/ Green today.
My Oyster had a tragic ending (4 yr old) so a new cartridge is needed.
I'm asking for any thoughts between the two...the Oyster became too harsh but improved detail once I set the weight and anti-skate recomendations by the manufacturer. R.E.O. Speedwagon became harsh enough I could barely stand it- My son loves the song. High hats also ended up being fatiguing to the ear. Sounded as detailed as a CD and less like the Vinyl I'm used to. Sarah Mclaclan sounded clearer and more airy- less full.
So any thoughts between the cartridges would be well appreciated.
My system is all vintage- a Marantz 2222B and Boston 100's. A sansui fr-d25 tt. Is this considered a warm system?
As you can see its a humble set-up...and I feel pretty naive:)
Normality frightens me- its what they use to lure you into the cookie cutter.
Roger
