The earliest STS (UK) reissue pressings have orange labels with silver lettering and a deep "V" groove on the label, up to about STS-15060. The second STS label is orange with silver lettering and no "V" groove, up to about STS-15400. After that, the earliest UK pressing is an orange label with black lettering. As always, earlier pressings tend to offer better sonics, with few exceptions.FWIW, I've directly compared original and reissue copies of Schubert: Sym. No. 9/Krips/LSO (1958). The original pressing, CS-6061 blueback ffss, is one of the gems of the Decca/London catalogue -both performance and sonics are truly magical. By comparison, reissue STS-15140 (UK 2nd label ffrr) sounds compressed and homogenized, mediocre at best.
OTOH, a late reissue STS-15040 (yellow label, US thin pressing) Grieg: Peer Gynt/Fjeldstad/LSO sounds wonderful. Though, I haven't had a chance to compare directly to original ffss pressing -another gem of performance and sonics from the Decca/London catalogue.
YMMV, as they say.
