i had the Technics, and now have an EMT 948

I like the NOS EMT 948; but I think that the EMT tonearm is holding it back. at some point I'd love to hear it with the Durand Kairos tonearm.

EMT 948 is designed to 'hang' from a desk-top. I had that wood plinth you see built for the EMT to drop into.

I did own the Technics SP-10 Mk2, and SP-10 Mk3....both with Dobbins plinths, and both were very very good. the Mk3 being 'more good'.

I'd say that the direct drive EMT 948 is in the league with the Mk3 to the degree I can hear through the tonearm and cartridge on it now. it's very solid and weighty sounding.....with an apparently low noise floor. note that this example is in perfect condition and 'new-old-stock'.

both SP-10's and the EMT hold sustained pitch on piano recordings superbly. I play lots of classical piano pressings.
