I agree with another poster...

That you would benefit from a better phono stage but that will not effect the slight grainy issue with high frequencies you are having.

Personally I would opt for a Denon 301II and forget the issues you have been having. Denon cartridges are not fussy at all and many people fix their analog issues by simply substituting a Denon cartridge.

I respect Ortofon cartridges but I have had nothing but good luck with Denon cartridges. The Denon cartridges that I have tried all track wonderfully and have zero issues with things like inner groove distortion. Like I said, they are not fussy at all.

Of course it could be that the 2M Black just needs a replacement stylus. A stylus like a Shibata will start to give you the symptoms you described when the stylus starts to wear. The Shibata and radical Line Contact stylii start to mistrack like you described when the stylus begins to wear out.

If you really like the 2M Black replace the stylus. If you want to experiment try the Denon 301II. If you want to really roll the dice replace the cartridge and the phono stage...but that sounds like something for another day.
