I should add I've noticed that I have a harder time with static when I'm wearing synthetic fibers than when I'm wearing cotton. If I forget and try to play a record when I'm just lounging around in my nylon sweatpants, forget it, it's impossible. Even with the zerostat, it needs to be zapped like five times.
I don't know how this works. I know cotton has a low dielectric constant, and nylon/polyester is much higher. Mayne it holds onto some charge that zooms up my body, down my arm and onto the record. I don't know. But it absolutely is true that wearing all cotton helps.
