HH Scott Preamp Model 122

207.53.232.38

A friend of mine who knew I was into tubes, whose brother is going thru a divorce, brought to me a big box of vacuum tubes that his brother figured he would never use in his lifetime. Most of these are pulls from other old tube gear that he repaired as a backyard radio repairman. As I was digging down through this huge heavy box I came across a HH Scott Model 122 Preamp. The faceplate was in great shape (no scratches and lettering about 98%) and since the preamp was without case its inerds are covered with old dust and dirt. All tubes and tube shields are there. The newspaper used as stuffing for it is dated 1979. So, my assumption is that it was boxed up in 1979 and forgotten. The box was only supposed to have tubes in it so I contacted the guy and told him of the preamp and expected him to want it back. Well, he also gives the preamp to me. I have searched the HH Scott webpage and the internet to find only very little about this preamp. Does anyone know much about what I have here. I know it sold from 1960-1961 only and cost $285. I plan to acquire a variac and bring up the voltage real slow to reform the capacitors and check the power supply operation. What else do I need to be cautious about? Or what can I expect to have failed? Should I need some parts are there any suppliers you would recommend who have had dealings with older vintage audio components? Does anyone have a copy of the manual or sales brochure that may have info on it. I did just order the SAMS Photofact for it.

Thanks for any info.
