Electro Voice Esquire speakers--any info?

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

recently acquired a pair of very good condition c1959 E-V esquires. looking for any and all info from other owners or those familar, such as impressions, driver parameters, rebuilding or redesigning crossovers, positioning etc. etc.

very impressed with them overall, although those crossover components must be tired. there is both a "brilliance" and a "treble array" control that i would like to do away with entirely, as they have a lot of "drop outs" throughout their range.

should these be positioned horizontally or vertically? should the horn tweeters be vertical or horizontal? and so forth and so on....
