B&W V202 speakers - astonished - any info?

I just picked up a pair of (I believe) 80's vintage B&W V202 speakers. At a glance, they are decent, 'nothing special'.

I have never had B&W speakers before and I have to say I am astounded by how good these sound. I have had some excellent speakers (currently ADS L570s and L1290s, Mission, Advents) but considering the size (6" woofer) these make a lot of bass and sparkling highs. 90 db efficient.

So, the question is, did B&W engineer these to be boosted at important frequencies, to create the illusion that they are "better than they are"?

Or am I just getting a really good synergy with my 14wpc Eico tube amplifier? I am listening to jazz and rock.

Anyone who has these, please share info or thoughts.

Thanks,
Pete
