Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Picked up My Luxman C-02, and 2 M-02 amps from Tom at Northridge Audio today in Simi Valley, Ca

Took my C-02, and M-02's for a maintanace check. They installed a factory update I was not aware of in the amps that keeps them from popping when in bridged mode and using both amps.

Was told the M-02's put out 160 watts at 1K 8 ohms, and 210 watts at 4 ohms, and 350 watts at 4 ohms bridged. Yes you can use your M-02 with 4 ohm speakers in bridged mode. Some say the 2 ohm load that the amps see would overload the amps, but I had it tested and it works fine. Very large transformer.

The C-02 was I guess putting out 14 Volts DC at idle, and was re-adjusted to 0 volts.

The Bias was checked and adjusted as needed. Apparently the amps where very close to correct, and drifted very little over the years.

Replaced all the brocken RCA jacks.

Had Banana speaker jacks intalled.

Was told that in the Techs opinion these are still great amps and pre-amps even by todays standards.

The amps and pre-amp are of DC output design with very fast op amps.

Was told the disadvantage of bridged mode besides the added amperage, is that when bridged you lose about 3 db on the high end around 15khz, ascompared to Stereo mode.

Was using my old Sansui 9500 integrated during the time the Luxman gear was in the shop. The Sansui is a great Rock and Roll amp, tones of low mid bass. No need for subwoofers with this amp, Brings out bass I never knew the Merlin 4bs had on almost any recording.

However after Re-hooking up the Luxman equipment I realized how special and sweet the Luxman set up is. Does not have the heavy slow mid bass the Sansui has which is great for Hendix, Sabbath, or Zep, or Pop music, but the Luxman seperates have a very more realistic seductive sound. that just captivates you. Very fast and tight.

After all these years I enjoy The Luxman stuff more and more.
