The pix above is of a healthy P300 board. Not mine.I have several leaking/bulging electrolytic caps in my P300 unit. I am going to replace them with Nichicon caps (the only ones I could find that will fit), however, since I will be doing surgery, I thought I would follow what I “think” is a Cullen mod.
Cullen no longer does mods on these units.
One source indicates that he doubled the # of capacitors on the circuit board.
There is a link to some pictures which show the circuit board, however the pictures are no longer available. (see DeafEar response where he mentions photos)Please copy entire link, its pretty long: http://db.audioasylum.com/mhtml/m.html?forum=tweaks&n=144318&highlight=p300+capacitor&r=&search_url=%2Fcgi%2Fsearch.mpl%3Fsearchtext%3D%2Bclasse%2Bcap100%26b%3DAND%26topic%3D%26topics_only%3DN%26author%3D%26date1%3D%26date2%3D%26slowmessage%3D%26sort%3Dscore%26sortOrder%3DDESC%26forum%3Dgeneral
In his review he mentions the mod as follows,
• The original 16 filter caps were replaced with 'gold series' caps rated at 3300uf. Cullen Circuits go through a mountain of electrical parts. The 'gold series' caps they use are custom-made in Japan to Rick's high specifications by the same manufacturer who makes Blackgates, and he orders them in batches of many thousands.
• An additional 16x3300uf 'gold series' filter caps were added, thus doubling the original filtering.
The circuit board has limited space and I am trying to figure the best way of doubling up of the # of capacitors on the board. On a P300 there are a total of 6 3300uf 100v capacitors. These are the ones that are leaking or bulging.
The only picture I can find via google shows a similar circuit board to mine is below, with the “gold” caps, however, there are 6 caps on the board. See Pix . I edited the post to include the pix of the board.1) Does anyone have a pix of how he shoehorned the extra caps and extended the leads ?
2) IF I manage to zip tie 6 additional caps should I be concerned with inrush current
Thanks
Here is a link of a fellow that made a repair on his P600

IF you have one of these units, it would be a good idea to check your capacitors….
If anyone has a picture of the doubled up capacitors, it would be appreciated, Thanks
