The premier 6 is a nuvistor pre preamp and it was used to stepup low output moving coil cartridges to be used with your regular phono stage.It used 6cw4s which are the small nuvistors as used in many FM tuners.
If the power supply waveform isn't pretty,neither is the sound in most cases.
