I just got a pair of Sennheiser HD800 headphones, which are pretty amazing.
I'd love to be able to drive them from the low-impedance (cathode follower) output of a VTL Deluxe preamp. It's output impedance is said to be "on the order of" 300 Ω. The phones' impedance ranges from 340-650 Ω. Maybe a series resistor? Some other mod? Or just try it and see? Rough schematic attached.
BTW, the 800s are astonishing - the first real replacement for the long-missed ESP9s.
