Position by EAR

The correct distance of the enclosure to the rear wall is a AURALLY determined position. Lowness of response Versus bass definition and overall character, naturalness.

The closer to the rear wall, the lower the system will couple to the room boundaries, until it couples too closely, and the bass become muddy and ill-defined. One must position by ear, trading off lowness of response to less muddiness, easily sensed in the mid and upper bass' character and aural presentation.

Ultimately, distance increments as small as 1/8th of an inch can be heard in my many 1980's experiences with Fulton Premieres ( 12 HZ to 110 KHZ ).
