RE: My tangent RS2 as good as my pk Quads

God how I wish it were true though. For any reasonably sized remotely affordable speaker. 2017 and counting.

After having my Quads in the closet for over a year, I broke down 4 days ago and ripped apart my living room just to set them up for a night and live with the mess - turned into 3 days and nights. At the end of a 23x13 room that was open to a dining room so actually a 23x21 space.

It was simply ridiculous how amazing these untouched 1969 Quads sounded - with the 1969 Quad 303 they were bought with. Massive, ethereal** presentation that the speakers just disappeared into, they did that bizarre Quad thing where you look right at them and they look like furniture from which no sound is emitting even at entirely reasonable volume. Erie disembodiment. They didn't sound like this anywhere else in my condo, even in the same room - it took me aback even after 25 years of Quads and 10 years in this condo.

The only way I have ever been able to even remotely replicate the joy is by recreating an immersive environment by going nearfield - essentially using small monitors as headphones - which I did in Nov 2015 and haven't touched a thing since. As a condo dweller it's the best I can do, and am quite happy - and they can rock where (my) Quads cannot.

But I'll keep hoping your headline comes true someday - nobody will be happier than I. For decades reviewers and hobbyists have been saying their boxes are getting closer and closer to Quads - but it never really seems to happen. A cone speaker weights a ton compared to an electrostatic membrane, so.... I might replace my nearfield Pioneer 22's with Mini Maggies in the same nearfield position one day and see if I'm a step closer - but even Magnepan gives a total non-answer to power requirements, wherein I roll my eyes and say forget it. Maybe someone will make a square version of the 57 midrange panel as a bookshelf like my Philco's!!!!

** extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world
