Re: EV speakers, which better Sx80s or EVID 6.2?

Visiting the high efficiency speaker forum is certainly a good idea.

More immediately, if you're looking for a high fidelity, high efficiency speaker suitable for domestic use that won't require you to sell your car or remortgage your house, it is my belief and personal experience that you can't do better than Tannoy professional monitors: System 12 DMT, System 12 DMT II, System 1200 (all 12" coaxial) System 15 DMT, System 15 DMT II (15" coaxial).

Half space sensitivities range from 93 to 98 dB; f3 bass extension from low forties to mid thirties. Clarity, detail, dynamics, imaging, all first-rate. Happy with SETs or megamonster solid state.

On the used market, these range from $700 to $2K, depending on model, age, condition, etc. Older Tannoys are great, but one must be prepared to recone, repair, refresh crossover parts, etc.

I use the DMT 15 II and the DMT 12 and none of the audiophile lines have offered much to tempt me away, even for double and triple the price.

New they are only sold in pro audio outlets.

Happy listening!

Joel.
