When 'The Three Stooges' first appeared down here on TV I thought they were kinda okay.

(Bittuva thread capture here, I now realise.)

But I already knew Laurel and Hardy through their films.

"I say Ollie, anyone with a name like Hitler, can't be all THAT bad!" Even if he never said it it fits the screen charcacter.

And, the Keystone Cops, both much funnier.

Much later on in my twenties I was introduced to The Marx Brothers, and nearly died laughing.

Then we have to add in Chaplin (who was British), and not always FUNNY!!!, and add in Buster Keaton, too.

I never did quite get the Stooges.

Yet, my favourite form of broadcast popular culture COMEDY was, and still is, The Goon Show, BBC mono AM radio only, made in the 195os. You had to try to imagine the fantastic scenes. One of the stars was Peter Sellers, it made his name. Most of the show were written by Spike Milligan who also performed.

The short click-on below comes from an episode called "The Mysterious Punch up the Conker" whose MO was ... ' leaping off a leather omnibus, and punching people up the conk!" ? nose?

The two in this clip are Peter Sellers playing a pre-pubescent/tween called Bluebottle and Spike Milligan playing the 'zen-idiot' Eccles, aka TFE The Famous Eccles.

They are ensconced in a clock shop, watching the Leather Omnibus factory across the street, in case TMPUTConker turns up!

Pink Floyd/their producer stole/borrowed? the sound-effects ideas - for the intro to "Money" on DSOTMoon, IIR the track correctly.

Enjoy!

And, here's a you-tube URL for the whole show at about 30 minutes. The two Jazz interludes are not half bad, as well.

Y'all might know that the Pythons regard Milligan's 'oeuvre' - including his TV work - as their opened door.
