RCA LS11A Studio Monitors (LC1 15" Coaxes)

Right now on eBay are a pair of very nice RCA LS11A Studio Monitors (pair), fitted with the original RCA LC1 15 inch coaxial 'camel bump' speakers for $5,500. The cabinets are 40 x 28 x 16 inches. Built in 1966. These were used in a St. Louis television station for many years. These very rare speakers are, in my opinion, the best sounding American speakers ever made. Extremely detailed, yet warm and smooth at the same time. The LC1 speakers are a 15 inch woofer, combined with a 2 inch paper cone tweeter with 'butterfly' dispersion lens. The woofer cone has seven 'camel bump' paper extensions which greatly increase midrange dispersion. Both the woofer cones and tweeter cones are in near mint condition. As is common with these, one or two 'camel bumps' have been pushed in a bit. This is cosmetic only and does not affect the sound. The dents could easily be pulled out, if you wanted to. These are also very high efficiency speakers. Efficiency is about 98 dB for one watt. The cabinets were specially designed for recording studio--or home--use. They are bass reflex cabinets, with adjustable tuned ports, made of very high quality 'marine' plywood, beautifully veneered in the finest quality walnut. These were just refinished to 'better than new' standard. The grills are also brand new. They are correct 1950's and 1960's material fitted by many major speaker companies of that time. These are as close to owning a brand new pair as it is possible to achieve today. If the buyer does not come to pick them up in St. Louis, they will have to pay to have them professionally crated in a wooden crate. I have a company, here in St. Louis, that can do this for a reasonable amount ---{these are coming from CommonSense Audio, the maker of Audio Nirvana speakers. I'm surprised the Dave Dicks doesn't keep them, I would}--- he estimates $200-$300 for crating. An alternative, for US customers, is a moving company service that does not require crating. Please email for more pictures or information. And thank you for your interest.
