Sony SCD-XA5400ES make you own SACD's (well sort of)

38.223.231.249

Got one of the new Sony units 2 weeks ago, it has about 40 hours on it. Sony has a clear winner on their hands. This offers an increase in frequency extension over all their previous ES models. Bass plumbs the depths and the unit is extremely detailed. I find it a bit lean in comparison to the Marantz SA11S2 I've been using, although this may change once it's fully broken in. I would say it's closer to the Wadia 861 rather than the Marantz SA7S1. It definitly offers sound way outside it's price.

The unit only offers stereo output via the analog out's. Multi-channel playback is only available via HDMI. Since I'm using it in a 2 channel system this posed no problem. It shares a common styling with the 9000ES which I find looking like a "Best Buy" special and the draw is especially flimsy. Apparently Sony put the money inside the unit.

Best of all it plays DSD format discs. I've done some needle drops and created a couple of DSD disc's and there NO Change from the original LP. I've been buying numerous 45 rpm audiophile releases, so this will give me a way of listening to them without having to change sides every 8 minutes.
