Yeah, they replace the plastic tubes and extend outward. It is actually very eay to dissasemble a Grado. the whole assembly is held together with a dab of hot melt glue. You can heat gun the whole thing or you can very carefully simply pry the assembly apart. I use the later method. While doiing that you can even ionsert a small double pole double throw switch and have a means of controlling polarity on your phones like the Grado Siggiers of yesteryear.
