This question may have been addressed previously, but I couldn't find an appropriate answer from a search of the archives.I have a Sonus Faber Gravis Home series subwoofer which I've been using in high level mode connected to the speaker terminals of a stereo power amp. This is the recommended method in the owner's manual. It is the same system used by REL (ie an XLR connector, with left and right "+" wires connected to the left and right "+" terminals on the amp, and the "-" wire connected to only one of the "-" speaker terminals on the amp).
My question is this: I've recently upgraded to a pair of monoblock power amps, and I'm uncertain as to the correct method of connection to the new amps, as this contingency is not covered in ths Sonus Faber manual. Should I connect the "-" wire of the XLR to only one monoblock amp's "-" terminal, like the current system, or should I split the "-" XLR wire and connect it to the "-" terminal on both amps (ie both speaker terminals on each monoblock being connected to the subwoofer)?
I'm not clear whether the two methods are equivalent. Would connection to both "-" terminals create earth problems? Would connection to only one amp fail to provide a signal return path for the other amp? High level connection to a powered sub should not be drawing any current, just a signal tap, and as the signals are being summed does this mean a dedicated return circuit path for each channel is not necessary?
Thanks in advance.
