Mark, Grundig's Satellit 800 is a repackaged Drake SW8; not the much more expensive and still in production R8! From what I've read, the 800s have had reliability issues since their inception, unlike the SW8(go figure). But then so does AOR's AR7030, which is also in the R8's price range. ICOM's R-75 has similar signal-snagging performance akin to Drake's R8 for about 1/3 the cost, with extremely robust construction. But you've gotta cap mod the a.g.c., a.m. sync, and audio to really get maximum performance outta that pup. Even after modding, though, the R-75's sync performance isn't in the R8's league(nor Sony's 2010, either; but that's why God invented Exhalted Carrier Selectable Sideband).
