Houston Audio Society Meeting - September 6

HAS held its fourth meeting of the year September 6 with an attendance of twenty. Julian and Emily Turner of Sedonia Sky Sound provided VMPS RM626 speakers, Ampzilla 2000 and a Marsh preamp for use at the meeting. Julian spent about half an hour optimizing the placement of the speakers in the room, particularly the distances of each from side and back walls. The Ampzilla and Marsh preamp proved to be a very synergistic combination with the VMPS speakers.

Jim Meine of Epic Audio then proceeded to demonstrate a variety of isolation devices ranging from cones to elastic pucks to a Regal Research air base. Interestingly, the Ampzilla was little effected by the use of brass cones. The SACD player on the other hand was more effected by different devices but not nearly as much as one might have predicted. Bob Crump suggested that the siting of equipment on glass shelves was probably the reason for the unpredicted results. As a result, the group will be doing further tests with isolation devices later this year.

The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th at 10 AM. The topic will be power cords.
