I debated the PS Perfectwave while it was on sale. But too pricy for me at this time.So I went and picked up a Teac.
Its a nicely built unit. Easy to setup. I havent had the chance to run DSD through it yet although I do have DSD files on my MAC (still learning how to use Audionirvana and Amarra.
Over all it sounds pretty close to the Sony 5400 on Redbook. A little more forward thats for sure. Files through Amarra not as good as the Sony transport in my opinion. AIFF ripped files seemed a little wall like in the upper registers.
OTOH, the Schiit Gungnir sounds thin, lacks bass and details are smeared on top. However vocals come across better. If I remember, the Schiit had a more full bass when I used its balanced outs before it went into the shop (The cary SLP0 not the Schiit - although the lack of bass makes me wonder if it needs to go in).
This is all with RCA outs. Havent run a balanced signal to my preamp as my SLP05 cary is still in for repairs.
I havent done a Bifrost listen for a while but will get to trying to compare it to its bigger sibling hopefully soon.
