REVIEW: Silver Audio Power Burst Cable

207.172.11.148

I am really impressed with these power cords. I had been using the Harmonic Tech AC-11's ($180) on my monoblocks and tried the newest (I believe that the change is relatively recent) version of Silver Audio's Power Burst power cords. Big improvement. For the first time I understood what reviewers mean when they discuss blacker backgrounds. Everything seemed more pure. Better still: with the Harmonic Techs, when I removed the plugs from my Panamax Max 6 surge protector, EMI/RF filter, and put the plug directly into the wall outlet, I got a noticeable improvement in dynamics but a real loss in the mid-range. With the Power Burst, when I did the same thing, I got the dynamics and the midrange and highs. Also got better front-to-back separation. Also got a very nice improvement on my preamp. With the cords in the amps, when I added one to the preamp, got even more overall clarity and purity of sound. Also with all three in the system, I noticed even better extension of highs. For example, on Kind of Blue (Sony, 20-bit), Adderley's sax is more extended in the highs without any accompanying edginess.

I compared the Power Burst to the Synergistic Research Master Coupler for the cd player. there, the results on my system were less clear. The Synergistic (at twice the price) gave better punch and tightness to the bass but it made the image more forward and I wasn't sure if it made the midrange SLIGHTLY less full and slightly rolled off the highs. I'm going to try the NBS Signature II (much more expensive) on the cdp.

The cords are thicker than they appear on the web site but are very flexible compared to the synergistic Research. Max Kreifeldt, the owner of Silver Audio, is very honest and knowledgeable; he will evaluate his products in a straightforward manner and will not attempt to oversell you. He gives 30-day trial periods.

His website is down as I write this so I can’t put in a link to the photo and description (which is worth a read: it describes low noise suppression below 10 MHz without limiting current). The phone number is 1-800-570-7881.
