Relatively speaking - 2534 (not 2543) is a bit more forward sounding and leaner in the bass. 2549 is warmer up top and the bass is rounder and fuller.
Their overall sonic quality is equivalent. Maybe think of 2534 for tubes and 2549 for solid state. Either is an excellent balanced cable.
BTW, 2549 makes a surprisingly good unbalanced RCA IC. Just tie both twisted leads together at both ends to the hot (pin) connector. Break in time is about 40 hours.
Redco.com will make up a cable for you too, for very little additional cost over the price of the wire & connectors. They made a truly excellent digital cable for me using Mogami 2964 and a BNC and RCA for my Benchmark DAC1. Cost was about $15 with shipping.
