Hi Joe:
Just some info to clear up some of the smell revolving around this thread.
I too am a new member of Audio Asylum and my reason for joining the asylum and logging on
is to correct some mistakes on Joe’s part and address some mean spirited replys to this thread.
First to Joe’s review!! I think Joe pretty much nailed it, to my ears it’s the best sounding amp
I've heard. You could say I’m biased because, I used to sell them on the internet @ My main
interest however in this thread is related to the bad publicity being generated by some replys to
this thread. for example the review being a publicity stunt in order to generate sales for S.A.R. Labs.
However Joe did made 2 mistakes 1st. the price from Walter is less than $5000 for a Mos 400
you will have to negotiate with Walter about that.(read the last 2 sentences in Joe’s review)
2nd. was the statement which drew out the bottom feeders, that the Mos 400 doubles down to
one ohm. It emphatically does not!! Nor does it double down to four ohms. It was designed
specifically for high efficiency loudspeakers with min.recomended impedence of 6 ohms.
Walter voices his amps using highly modified 15” Tannoy Reds.
By the way the Mos 450 does handle 4 ohms quite handily. Typical onset of clipping for the
Mos 450 is 312 watts per channel, onset of clipping for the Mos 400 is around 300 wpc.
As I said before I used to market S.A.R. Labs amps on the net. go to my website and scroll down
to the bottom of Fred’s Page. you’ll see some pics of the current line up as well as some custom
one off amps Walter has built (www.audiofyle.com). The Mos 450 is out of production there are
enough parts for 1 maybe 2 Mos 450's. The Mos 400 is the culmination of 40 plus years
experience in the hi fi world!!
For those of you shooting barbs at Joe!!! S.A.R. Labs is headquartered in Winnipeg it's factory is
located in a 700 square foot shop in Walters garage. Aha it's a conspiracy Joe lives in Toronto!
I checked the profiles of some of the more extreme replys they claim to be business men,
medical professionals. Joe they sound to me more like guys that never get out of their dressing
gowns watching reruns of CSI MIAMI & putting the detective skills they learned there to bad use.
!! I think I hear their elevator !! On the bright side Joe this thread has stimulated several calls to
Walter from people who have bought used S.A.R. Labs amps bth 400's & 450's
