A friend offered me a great deal on a Cary CAI 1 integrated. I got it last night and hooked it up to my Focal speakers. I had read a couple of reviews of the Cary that seemed to imply that the amp had some good qualities along with some shortcomings. My expectations, based on what I had read, were not real high. I figured just another decent sounding amp. As I've only had it hooked up since last night, I figure I have a few months of listening to do before I really understand what this amp really does. First impression? I think it's wonderful. Paired with the Focals, it just sings. Deep, tight bass, smooth, open midrange, sweet treble. Maybe just a lucky match? Anyway, in the past I had a Rowland 102 and Capri preamp that just didn't do it for me. To my ears, the Cary just flat out sounds better. It replaces a Jolida 502BRC and at first listen, pretty much stomps the Jolida and I really like the Jolida. Anyone else own one of these? Also, built like a tank. Who knew a company known for tube amps would come out with a honey of a digital amp? Can't wait to hear it after it's been on for a few days!
