Applied Fidelity has some new items.

Before exploring what is new, our original improved bearing, Generation 2 bearing, new Generation 3 bearing, Delrin mat, heavy Delrin mat and screw down clamps are available for sale with a 5% discount if you mention the Audio Asylum.

I offer three improved Technics bearings for the SL1200, SL1600 and other Direct Drive Technics turntables. For those with SP 10, SP 15 and SP 25 turntables I can modify your bearing using the same processes and provide a dramatically more stable bearing for the SP 10MKII customers adding mass to their turntable platters.

The original improved bearing will provide quieter backgrounds, pinpoint sound staging, clearer vocals, deeper and tighter bass lines, mid-bass punch, and clearer highs. Our suggested retail price is $225.00 USD. Send in your stock bearing and we will refund $35.00 USD. Upgrade at any time to the version you want and pay only the difference between the price you paid and the current price on the model you select. You get 100 percent trade in value!

The new Gen2 bearing uses special space age plastics to eliminate all metal to metal resonance conductance. This results in a fuller expression of things like hearing the ebony tonality of a clarinet, the micro level details in percussion and the resonant wood tones of bowed instruments and accoustic Guitar. The Gen2 bearing allows the Technics platform to perform with sound quality that is life like and natural.

We nitride the bearing shaft. It will never wear or scratch in normal use. A space age plastic side wall bearing produces less resonance. The lower thrust pad and ceramic ball are isolated with a second space age plastic to produce the world's first accoustically decoupled Technics turntable bearing.

The Gen2 bearing is $325.00 USD I offer a $35.00 core refund if you return your core for refitment or send it back after receiving your new bearing.

I am now offering a Gen 3 Sapphire bearing. I have enclosed the bearing in a sealed oil bath so the oil cannot spill. I use a compressed layer damped technology with this bearing to further reduce resonance. The Sapphire Gen 3 bearing is $375.00 and has one half the friction of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 designs making it the lowest resonance Technics bearing on earth.

The Jewel bearing does not come with a lifetime warranty like the original and Gen2 designs. I do warranty the shaft, side wall bearing and ceramic ball with a limited life time warranty. Replacing the Sapphire would run approximately $50.00.

The Delrin mats come in both black and beige. The beige is a special de-stressed and low static version of Dupont's Delrin. It functions to reduce the static build up on an LP, similar to what you get using a Zerostat or LP Demagnetizer.

The Delrin mats can twist over time so its best to send me your platter and I will drill and countersink the Delrin so it can be screwed tight against the stock platter. This also provides a constrained layer resonance damping which elimiates the ringing of a stock Technics platter.

The Black mat is $179.00 and the Beige is $249.00. The platter will also be polished before returning it.

The heavy mat nearly doubles the rotational mass of the platter. I have been running my 3 lb mat now for almost three years without issue. You will hear better stability in sustained notes as well as more solidity and PRaT.

The black Delrin heavy mat is $279.00 USD and the beige low static Delrin heavy mat is $349.00 USD.

The heavy mat is manufactured from a precision ground aluminum plate and the Delrin is counter sunk to this piece to create a compressed layer resonance trap. I paint the top and bottom surfaces of the aluminum to eliminate corrosion. The finished product nearly doubles the rotating mass of the stock platter.

All of my Gen 2 and Gen 3 bearings come 0.220 inches taller than stock to accomodate the heavy mat as well as the copper mats on the marketplace.

Another new item for this year is a screw down clamp provision for the Technics. The cost for the screw down clamp and spindle modifications are $199.00 for a brightly polished clamp and $279.00 for an anodized clamp.

Here are the current clamp options.

If you order a a bearing with the screw down clamp I modify the spindle and provide the screw down clamp for just $199.00 for the bright polished aluminum piece.

Shipping is $16.00 USD for priority mail shipping of the G1, G2 or G3 bearings. Shipping is $29.00 if shipping a heavy mat. I combine shipping on packages.

You can pay me by paypal or by US Postal Money order. My paypal address is jim.howard@appliedfidelity.com

These improved bearing materials can be adapted to nearly every turntable on the market. I have upgraded RekOKut, VPI, Michell, Yamaha, Garrard, Thoren, Denon, and Lenco bearings. These bearing modifications are affordable and dramatically improve the overall experience on these tables.

Jewel bearing upgrades depend on other factors. Please contact me for details on your project.

If you are International, please provide me with the country and postal code to determine the appropriate shipping expense.
