Coins last longer than paper but high value ones not popular here as elsewhere. Canadians have one and two dollar coins called "loonies" and "toonies". My wife likes the latter because of the polar bear found on them. In the UK, the pound coin is commonly used.
I rather like dollar coins and have a collection of those made over the years. The Eisenhower was too big. The Susan B Anthony looked like a quarter and had the same feel with a reeded edge. The Sacagawea was different with a gold color and smooth edge. Looked and felt different than a quarter. I have a bunch of the later Presidential flavor that were similar to Sacagawea but had edge-incused inscriptions.
