Yes but a consideration should be that the Oct 7 the attack was a sucker punch, out of the blue, that also involved making gruesome videos of what they did to men, women, children and babies and proudly sending them "back home" to show what they had done.
Letting the Israeli's and the world see those videos, (where shown) didn't help the the sympathy ploy that they were counting on after the counter attacks..
This had to be on purpose, knowing full well doing such horrible things that they were going to get the crap pounded out of them and so, their wish was granted although with more restraint than past events.
While the response to the surprise attack was substantial, the loss of civilian life would have been far less (given the warnings etc) had Hamas not used the residents homes and bodies for shelter and body armor and allowed them to leave in greater numbers. OTH, if they were faithful H supporters, staying was the right thing to do, ideally to become one with the earth with the mentally ill who committed the surprise attack at a time that was at peace..
The response was however, not enough yet to get them to give up, much like the knight at the bridge in the Holy Grail.
What needs to happen is to end this the conventional way, with one side finally being willing to give up and say it's over and be over.
Meanwhile since several other countries have traditionally been sending their young hotheads there to fight, a key part would be addressing that flow of people committed to killing and not allowing them to ever get that close again.
